The 2015 Geelong Small Business Festival kicks off this Saturday with Australia’s top business experts ready to share their tricks of the trade.

With more than 40 events and seminars on offer over the entire month of August, small business owners will be given the tools they need to start up a business, develop marketing and social media strategies and strengthen their business plans.

Most events are free or low cost and held after normal business hours to make it easier for business owners to attend.

City of Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Michelle Heagney officially launched the festival alongside Member for Geelong Christine Couzens.

“Small and medium sized enterprises truly drive our economy,” Cr Heagney said.

“A massive 95 per cent of local businesses employ less than 20 people. There’s enormous potential for growth in this sector. If every one of these businesses employed just one more person, Geelong’s workforce would increase by 20 per cent.”

Councillor Bruce Harwood portfolio holder for Enterprise Geelong said the Small Business Festival was a brilliant resource for any business owner.

“The Geelong Small Business Festival offers great learning opportunities and the chance to build key business contacts,” said Cr Harwood.

“Social media is an important tool in any business and the Small Business Festival is full of informative sessions to assist in creating catchy web content, photography training and tips on how to grow your business on YouTube.”

The Small Business Festival is sponsored by the City of Greater Geelong in conjunction with the Victorian Government.
