City supports events that benefit the community
The City of Perth is investing more than $340,000 to partner with organisations to deliver a range of events benefiting the whole community – including assisting the disadvantaged, supporting young leaders in business, and providing quality arts and cultural experiences for the people of Perth.
Events endorsed for sponsorship at tonight’s Council meeting include Homeless Connect Perth, 40under40 Awards, WAM Festival, City of Perth Symphony in the City, and upcoming seasons by the West Australian Ballet.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the City supports events that meet the needs of our growing community.
“The City of Perth’s Sponsorship Program injects more than $2.8 million into the local economy,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“With over 200 events and projects supported each year, we are leading city activation and vibrancy, as well as improving outcomes for the socially disadvantaged.”
Volunteering WA Inc.’s annual Homeless Connect Perth event will be held at Russell Square and the Hellenic Community Centre on Wednesday, 11 November – providing free services to homeless people for one day.
“We have partnered with Homeless Connect Perth for the past seven years,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“Through the implementation of strategies like Homeless Connect, the City can better manage the impact of homelessness through the collaborative effort of community, business and not-for-profit, to improve the outcomes for homeless people in the inner city.”
In arts and cultural sponsorship, the City is partnering with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to deliver a free outdoor concert at Langley Park on Saturday, 12 December, as well as supporting next year’s West Australian Ballet seasons two, three and four, and the West Australian Music Industry Association’s 2015 WAM Festival, to be held between Friday, 6 November and Sunday, 8 November featuring local contemporary music talent.
The 2016 Business News 40under40 Awards has also been supported by the City, taking place in February or March 2016, and recognising young WA leaders in the business community.
“For 14 years since its outset, the City of Perth has sponsored this important event in support of the young entrepreneurial spirit that helps local businesses, and local people, grow,” Ms Scaffidi said.
