Cobram Streetscape officially opened

Moira Shire Council welcomed the Hon. Jaala Pulford MP, Minister for Regional Development, to the district this week for the official opening of the Cobram Streetscape Stage 2 Project.

Mayor Martin said the Victorian Government was a major financial supporter of the upgrade.

"The completed Cobram Streetscape Stage 2 project has succeeded in creating a town centre that is much more aesthetically pleasing and will attract more tourists and visitors to the town," Cr Martin said.

"We appreciate that it may take time getting used to the changed conditions, but the completed project has achieved a much safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians alike," she said.

"The streetscape project was valued at $1.21 million and Regional Development Victoria contributed a combined $960,000 through the Local Government Infrastructure Program and Putting Local First grant schemes."

The Principal of Cobram & District Specialist School, Leah Willis, said that her students have benefited from the upgraded Punt Road and High Street.

"Our school runs daily programs that require our students, some of whom are in wheelchairs, to travel throughout the town centre, and having those pedestrian crossings installed has certainly made it a much safer environment for both our students and our staff," Mrs Willis said.

"It was such a busy street beforehand, but to now be able to use those crossings really does make a difference," she said.
