Community-based safety and rescue organisations receive boost from council

Logan Beaudesert Crime Stoppers, RACQ CareFlight and Jacobs Well Volunteer Marine Rescue have been provided with much needed funding to help them to continue providing their community-based services.
 
Presenting each organisation with a cheque for $5000, Mayor Pam Parker said all three organisations played a valuable role – protecting the residents of Logan and surrounds, and rescuing them when they found themselves in life-threatening situations.
 
"RACQ CareFlight, which has been operating since 1981, has performed more than 38,000 rescue missions in Queensland since its inception," Mayor Parker said,
 
"Last year more than 1,400 people requiring immediate medical attention were airlifted to hospitals, including 56 babies who required life-saving specialist treatment.
 
"The Volunteer Marine Rescue also provides services for the benefit of Logan residents, saving lives and property between southern Moreton Bay and the Coomera River and up to 50 nautical miles offshore. They perform search and rescue operations and are a vital community service for all boaties."
 
Mayor Parker said Crime Stoppers had contributed to community safety in Logan and was largely supported by volunteers who held fund raisers to support local promotions and provide rewards where information provided by the public led to arrests.
 
"Crime Stoppers, with the invaluable assistance of volunteers, has continued to make an important contribution to our community," Mayor Parker said.

"They offer residents the opportunity to provide information anonymously, which last year contributed to the arrest of more than 120 people in Logan."
