Council appoints experienced CEO as Boss

Mr Rob Noble, an experienced local government CEO, has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wyong Shire Council for up to 12 months.

Mr Noble grew up in Newcastle and completed a Bachelor of Commerce, with Honours, at Newcastle University.  He is a relationship management consultant with extensive experience as a Council CEO and General Manager of a wide variety of Councils both in NSW and Queensland.  He was the Acting General Manager of the City of Newcastle in 2011 and most recently was the Acting CEO of Liverpool City Council while those Councils recruited for a permanent CEO.

Mr Noble said being able to return to an area he knows so well was one of the main attractions to taking up the reins at the Council.

“I grew up just down the road so I know the Wyong Shire area very well,” Mr Noble said.

“I also have a lot of experience heading up regional Councils so am aware of the challenges they face and have been involved in amalgamation processes so feel this is a perfect fit for me.”

Mr Noble was CEO of Caboolture Shire Council, a regional Council in Queensland, just north of Brisbane for eleven years before it was amalgamated with the City of Redcliffe and Shire of Pine Rivers, in 2008 to form the Moreton Bay Region - the 3rd largest Council in Australia.

Council’s Mayor, Doug Eaton OAM, said Mr Noble’s experience managing a water authority, large regional Councils and as a relationship consultant made him the perfect candidate for the job.

“He seems like an expert Acting CEO to myself and my fellow Councillors and that is certainly what we need right now,” Mayor Eaton said.

“We are heading into some challenging times with the Fit for Future process, being driven by the NSW Government, hanging over our heads and we need a steady hand to guide us through that process while ensuring we keep delivering the essential services our community expect and need.

“Mike Whittaker will be missed as he has been instrumental in getting our Council back in the black , focused on delivering essential services in a best value manner and moving the Wyong economy forward.

“I believe Council has found the ideal replacement for Mike in Rob. He was unanimously supported by Council, and I am looking forward to working with him in the months ahead.”

Mr Noble takes up his position as acting CEO on Monday September 14.
