Council endorses community grants to the value of $173,390
Council last night endorsed a recommendation to allocate more than $170,000 in funding for round two of the 2013/14 City of Greater Bendigo Community Grants Program.
Ninety-four applications for funding were received and $173,390 was shared among the 65 successful applicants.
This round the Print and Digital Publications category replaced the Community Newsletter category, following increasing enquiries about funding for online communication mediums.
It was also the first time applications were received online across the seven categories:
- Arts and Culture
- Community Development
- Community Events
- Environmental Sustainability
- Healthy Communities
- Print and Digital Publications
- Recreation
Successful applicants include:
- Heathcote Festival and Events Association, to promote the fourth Heathcote Film Festival across Central Victoria
- PepperGreen Farm, to develop educational resources about organic waste management
- Raywood Progress Association, to host a community dance and barbeque
- e.motion 21 Bendigo Dance Group, to offer dance and fitness programs for people with disabilities
- Greater Bendigo Community Radio, to purchase a new operating console
Mayor Councillor Barry Lyons said it was a pleasure for Council to agree to the distribution of funds.
“As a result of the grants program, numerous not-for-profit groups stand to benefit and will be able to continue their good work making a difference in their local communities,” Cr Lyons said.
“It is not possible to support every application that is received, so anyone who missed out is encouraged to re-apply when round one of the 2014/15 Community Grants Program opens later this year.”
The City will again run grant seeking and grant writing workshops to help applicants bolster their funding submissions before round one commences in August.
In accordance with the Community Grants Policy, Volunteer Community Assessment Panels are convened to consider applications for each category.
The Community Grants Program funding is distributed in two rounds to allow community groups greater access to funding throughout the financial year.
