Council partners with Rotary for Stage 2 of Bellingen Outdoor Fitness Centre

Late last year local residents welcomed the installation of specially designed outdoor exercise equipment at Connell Park in Bellingen.

Situated alongside the children’s playground and BBQ picnic shelter, Stage 1 of the project included 6-pieces of movable and interactive, equipment with cardio workout and resistance training features such as rowing machines, cycle seat and cross trainer. Funding was provided by the NSW Office of Communities – Sport & Recreation.

Council recently partnered with the Bellingen Rotary Club to gain funding for Stage 2 to extend the fitness trail with two new pieces of equipment, namely a sit up bench and push up bars.   Suitable for teenagers through to seniors, the equipment provides a cost free facility for those looking for a new and innovative way to exercise.

A small gathering was held recently at the park where Mayor of Bellingen, Cr Mark Troy thanked the Rotary members for their valuable contribution to the project.  “Leading an active lifestyle is important no matter what your age or fitness ability, and the equipment is part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles for all members of the community”, added the Mayor.

Rotarian and President of Bellingen Rotary, Diana Christian spoke generally about the Club’s activities adding that they found the experience very valuable and looked forward to partnering with Council in the future to undertake small projects throughout the Shire.
