Council's e-waste service to continue

Hornsby Shire Council will be continuing its successful e-waste collection service for another three years.

The service is part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS) and was introduced in Hornsby Shire as a trial in November 2013.

It provides the public with a safe, accessible way to dispose of their electronic goods, such as computers or televisions, which would otherwise present a health and environmental hazard due to the toxic material they include.

Residents are able to drop off any electronic waste to Council’s Depot in Thornleigh, where it is then collected by NTCRS provider TechCollect to be delivered to its recycling partners.

The service has been widely used by Hornsby Shire residents, with 3,000 visitors to the site dropping off more than 88 tonnes of e-waste since November.

The majority of the cost is met by the NTCR Scheme and Council only contributes about $50,000 per annum, which is significantly less than the $250,000 that was spent on e-waste before the service was introduced.

Council’s Depot is located at 4 Chilvers Road, Thornleigh. For more information about the e-waste service, visit Hornsby Shire Council
