Council to showcase upcoming construction opportunities

If you’re a business operator who wants to learn about Council’s $111 million worth of construction projects – and how you can tender for them – you’ll want to attend Council’s Suppliers Forum.

Registrations are now open for the forum, which will be held on Thursday February 26, 2-4pm, at Lake Kawana Community Centre.

Economic Development portfolio councillor Steve Robinson said the forum was an opportunity for local businesses to get an overview of Council’s ten year Capital Works Program, procurement policies, and tender evaluation procedures.

“Council spends over $100m per year on its Capital Works Program, which includes building and maintaining everything from amenity blocks and landscaping to roads, bridges and sports centres,” Councillor Robinson said.

“It’s important all eligible businesses have the opportunity to understand our procurement processes and to learn how to tender for these projects

“The forum will include a presentation on upcoming projects, and staff will be available to answer questions.”

Councillor Robinson said 69.5% of Council’s total active purchasing in the last financial year went to local businesses.

“Council spent $169 million locally in the last financial year and construction projects made up a large portion of this,” he said.

“The conscious decision to buy local goods and services, and to inform local businesses about our tender processes, helps build a sustainable local economy.”
