Council welcomes CBD funding

Gosford City Council and the Central Coast Regional Development Corporation (CCRDC) have celebrated yesterday’s funding announcement for the Kibbleplex project by Member for Robertson, Ms Deborah O’Neill.

Ms O’Neill announced that the Government would provide $7 million to the project, matching council’s contribution dollar for dollar.

Gosford City Council General Manager, Mr Paul Anderson has welcomed funding for the project saying that it is secured and will move ahead regardless of the result of the September 7 election - a real coup for Gosford City.

“This is a flagship project for the redevelopment of Gosford and is the result of a great deal of hard work from a number of local agencies.

“Kibbleplex is set to give new life to the Gosford CBD, generating new business on the back of the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN).

“The early rollout of the NBN along with this new project will benefit already established business and those looking to relocate to Gosford.

Kibbleplex will tap into the wide ranging benefits of the NBN and be a state-of-the-art hub for education and business while also promoting job creation here in the city centre,” said Mr Anderson.

Chairman of the CCRDC, John Taylor, says the organisation views education as a key driver for economic growth and vitality within the Central Coast region.

Earlier this year, CCRDC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Newcastle to establish a university presence in the Gosford city centre.

“A university campus in Gosford would improve the vibrancy of both the regional city and the regional economy. The Federal government’s contribution of $7 million towards the establishment of Kibbleplex is great for the revitalisation of Gosford.

“CCRDC will continue to work with University of Newcastle and other key partners, such as Gosford City Council, to realise the provision of higher education in Gosford,” said Mr Taylor.

Mr Anderson said the project will feature a city library, a university presence and a smart work (telecommuting) centre.

“This significant injection of infrastructure will be a catalyst for the growth of Gosford, strengthening our local economy and bringing Gosford back to its rightful place as capital of the Central Coast.

“I would like to thank Ms O’Neill for her support for this project and the on-going revitalisation of the Gosford CBD,” said Mr Anderson.
