Darebin councillor elected to VLGA
Darebin Councillor Trent McCarthy has successfully secured a seat on the Victorian Local Governance Association’s (VLGA) Board for a two year term.
The VLGA is a unique peak body that has local government, community organisations and individuals making up its membership. It advocates for social change and empowers local governments by strengthening their capacity to engage with communities.
Cr Trent McCarthy is one of six councillors and two community leaders elected to represent local Victorian councils and community organisations across the State.
Cr McCarthy said he was excited to be elected and eager to be part of a collaborative team that supports local councils.
“I’m very passionate about ensuring open government and strengthening community participation in decision making and I will be advocating strongly for this across all local councils,” Cr McCarthy said
“I’m look forward to getting started with the VLGA and developing good relations with all levels of government and advocating for progressive change and commitment to local democracy,” Cr McCarthy said.
Darebin City Council has had a long history with the VLGA and co-founded the association in 1994.
