Dinner to foster cooperation between neighbouring Shires
Last week, Mount Alexander Shire Council hosted a dinner meeting at the Civic Centre with Councillors and the executive teams from Council and Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
The event aimed to continue to foster good working relationships and cooperation between the two neighbouring municipalities. It was an opportunity to talk about local priorities and projects that would benefit from a joint advocacy approach to progress.
“The dinner meeting was a great opportunity for us to talk openly about the key issues in the adjoining shires and to work through our mutual interests,” said Cr Michael Redden, Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire Council.
“There was interest in jointly advocating for improved public transport services, continuing investment in secondary school improvements and also working together on environmentally sound and cost effective waste management solutions.”
The agenda for the meeting included advocacy on traffic speed zones, regional waste group, library services, Councillor professional development, regional transport, emergency management arrangements and a Pop Up Art project.
“We all appreciated the opportunity to come together to discuss the most effective ways that we can work together on some of the overarching, big picture issues. Our regions share the transport corridor and that is of great importance to how we proceed into the future,” said Cr Roger Jukes, Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
As a follow up to this meeting, Macedon Ranges Shire Council extended the welcome to host a similar event later in the year.
