Facade Improvement Scheme to continue

The City of Newcastle has approved a second round of the popular Façade Improvement Scheme offering grants to spruce up building facades in the Newcastle CBD.

The Façade Improvement Scheme is one of a number of projects that form part of the city’s revitalisation project and will help to make a demonstrated improvement to Newcastle’s city centre.

The scheme is a grant program jointly funded by The City of Newcastle and Newcastle NOW to assist building owners, commercial operators and others to improve their building facades.

Lord Mayor JEFF McCLOY says Council was thrilled with the response to round one and hopes businesses in the CBD take up the opportunity to submit an application in the next round.

“Earlier this year we were able to support 37 businesses who are now hard at work completing painting, cleaning and minor repairs.

“Works associated with the first round of the scheme are due for completion by December 2013 and our investment has will have helped to deliver $300,000 of façade improvement works across the city centre.”

“Schemes like this are really important for our city and will help to make a big difference to not only the look of the CBD but will also help to encourage more locals and visitors to shop, dine and play in the area.

“This is a great opportunity for business owners who may have been looking to spruce up their building façade to get a bit of a helping hand and encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch with us to find out more.”
