Free BBQs to celebrate our good hoods
A series of free community barbecues will give City of Sydney residents the chance to meet their neighbours, local police and City staff this month, in a bid to make our communities safer and more friendly.
The barbecues invite Sydneysiders to get to know people from their local community and learn about safety, security initiatives, events and activities happening in their area.
Residents and visitors will also be invited to fill out a survey on safety in their neighbourhood, with participants going into the draw to win tickets to the 2013 Sydney New Year’s Eve VIP viewing area at Dawes Point.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the barbecues were a great way for neighbours to connect with each other and learn more about their local villages.
“Our Good Neighbourhood BBQs are fun, relaxed events that encourage people to come together and get to know members of their community they may not have met before,” the Lord Mayor said.
“It’s really important to connect with the people that live and work around us, to help ensure our neighbours and their homes are safe, and our local communities are enjoyable places to live.”
The barbecues will feature live music, wild animal encounters, children’s activities and the chance to meet local police and City staff, who will offer free advice on how to make your home and community a safer place.
Feedback from the safety survey will help build on the City’s Safe City Strategy and programs that aim to reduce crime and strengthen community ties.
