Free movie night to raise money for Reach Out for Ravenshoe
Residents wishing to support the victims of the Ravenshoe café disaster last week will have the opportunity to do so through a free movie night being held at Brinsmead next week.
Cairns Regional Council will host the community movie event under the stars at Loridan Drive Reserve on Saturday 27 June from 6pm (screening at 7pm), with Big Hero 6 gracing the big, inflatable screen.
"These nights are always great community events and form part of Council's monthly program of free movie nights," Division 6 Cr Linda Cooper said.
"But I think this one is extremely important as it will give local families a chance to help the victims of the café blast in Ravenshoe last week.
"This is a beautiful way for our community to come together to enjoy each other's company, to enjoy doing something together as a family, and to do something positive for those who have been impacted by this ongoing tragedy.
"The Bears Baseball Club, who were the fundraising recipients of our previous movie night, have already generously committed to helping us with fundraising on the night by selling soft drinks, chips and chocolates.
"But I'm also chasing other providers to help us raise more money for the fundraising campaign Reach Out for Ravenshoe. I'm looking for service clubs who can run a sausage sizzle, fairyfloss makers, pie vans – basically anyone who can provide food or beverage services on the night to help contribute to our fundraising efforts."
Cairns Regional Council has already committed $20,000 to the fundraising campaign.
Anyone who can help should email Cr Cooper at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0419 656 995.
Patrons for the event should bring their own folding chairs, rugs or bean bags to watch the movie under the stars …. And some gold coins to contribute to the fundraising appeal.
