Funding for community groups to help achieve their goals

From youth and cultural programs, to street fairs, sporting competitions and festive season events, a diverse range of 67 community organisations will benefit following Sunshine Coast Council endorsing $288,051 in community grants.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council’s grant and funding programs helped foster engaged, resilient and inclusive communities across the region.

“We have such a vast array of community organisations on the Sunshine Coast and this widespread group of recipients reflects that,” said Cr McKay.

“Council’s community grants support our communities across seven categories – this round of funding includes:

  • $99,805 for community development
  • $30,158 for cultural development
  • $22,290 for cultural heritage
  • $15,000 for economic development
  • $6,417 for environmental projects
  • $11,500 for festive season activities
  • $102,881 for sport, recreation and healthy living.

“There are some really exciting programs and organisations receiving funding, ranging from community centres, sporting clubs and musical groups to Indigenous and youth programs – these clubs will receive a well-deserved boost for their upcoming projects.

“This diversity highlights the benefit of council’s grants programs to the wider Coast community and is also testament to the fantastic work that these groups do.”

Cr McKay said funding for the next major round opens on August 1, 2014 and encourages community groups interested in applying to contact council’s grants officers for assistance.

“Officers can offer assistance with the application process, project development, grant writing tips and advice on other funding sources outside council,” she said.
