Applications are now open for the 2014 Singleton Mayoral Scholarship Program.
The program is offering five scholarships of $4000 each to be awarded in five categories: agriculture; business; engineering and infrastructure; environment; and community, social services and education.
Residents of the Singleton Local Government Area who are enrolled to study in 2014 in years 10, 11 or 12, a university program or apprenticeship, traineeship or vocational study program are eligible to apply.
The scholarships can be put towards education fees, tools, text books, transport or housing costs. The 2014 Singleton Mayoral Scholarship Program is proudly brought to you by Singleton Council, with principal sponsors Ashton Coal and Peabody Energy and support sponsors AngloAmerican and TAFE – Hunter Institute.
Singleton Mayor John Martin says the Singleton Mayoral Scholarship Program, now in its fifth year, was established to celebrate community contribution and academic achievements.
“Since inception, the program has gone from strength to strength, attracting applicants of the highest caliber and I expect 2014 will be no different,” he says.
“To date, the program has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to deserving local recipients.
“I strongly believe in supporting further education in our community and the opportunities this program can open up for those involved.
“Recipients enjoy a range of benefits including practical experience at application writing and panel interviewing, recognition of their academic achievement and community spirit, and the opportunity to network with local business and local government staff.
“I look forward to receiving applications in the 2014 program and encourage eligible members of our community to apply.”
Application forms and information packs are available to download from www.singleton.nsw.gov.au/scholarship and close on 21 February 2014. The scholarships will be presented on 9 April 2014.
