Geelong organisations join forces to host Jobs Fair
Key Geelong organisations are joining forces to host a two-day Jobs Fair aimed at boosting local employment.
The fair is targeted at anyone looking for a job, planning a career or interested in a career change.
It will be held at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus (level two) from 10am to 5pm this Friday and Saturday.
Around 50 employers, training organisations and peak industry groups including Barwon Health, Coles, TAC, Sky Software, City of Greater Geelong, Vic Police and Corrections Victoria will be represented at the fair.
There’ll also be seminars running throughout the day for people to find out about job pathways, retraining and upskilling.
It is an initiative of the City of Greater Geelong, the Australian Government, Geelong Advertiser, K-Rock/Bay FM and Deakin University.
Comments from City of Greater Geelong Acting Mayor Bruce Harwood:
“I’m often asked what council is doing to boost local employment. This Jobs Fair is one of the ways we’re helping connect job seekers with employers or pathways to work.”
“Securing jobs for local people requires a united effort, so we’re joining forces with key Geelong organisations to get the best results.”
“If you are looking for work, just starting your career or looking for a change then get along to the Jobs Fair.”
“The Jobs Fair will focus on employment in sectors that are growing such as health, ICT and education as well as those sectors in transition.”
Comments from Federal Member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson
“The Geelong Jobs Fair provides both employers and job seekers with a great opportunity.”
“The Jobs Fair will be a one-stop-shop for workers who are considering their employment options. Workers will have easy access to a wide range of employers, recruitment agencies and training providers.”
“I’m proud that the Federal Government is funding this very important initiative. We recognise how vital jobs growth is and how important it is to be investing in the next generation of job opportunities.”
Comments from Deakin University Vice Chancellor, Professor Jane den Hollander:
“Even in this digital age of online jobs boards and recruiting, jobs fairs have a critical role to play – a great way to discover new opportunities, to explore new career opportunities and to learn about companies in our region and to test your skills of selling yourself to potential employers.”
“Getting a foot in the door is always the greatest challenge – the Jobs Fair connects future employees with future employers.”
Comments from General Manager BayFM/K-Rock, Andy Mathers:
“Jobs4geelong is about supporting employers and employees in every way we can. We want to promote what’s great about our community and the great things that are happening.”
“We take pride in knowing we are genuinely doing our little bit to help.”
“If we can facilitate introductions through the Jobs Fair and get people working, that’s all we want. Keeping Greater Geelong great!”
Comments from Geelong Advertiser Group General Manager, Commercial, Peter Klages
"Jobs4Geelong has allowed the businesses of our region along with elected and civic leaders to show that we believe. It has brought everyone together in a way that will provide ongoing help, support but opportunity for growth and positive reinforcement."
