Get out and about and ride your bike during NSW Bike Week

Jump on your bike and snap on your helmet for some fun-filled free events planned around the Hawkesbury to celebrate NSW Bike Week (12-20 September).

NSW Bike Week is an annual celebration of cycling, encouraging people from all walks of life to get on a bike and ride. The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Kim Ford is delighted Council is participating in NSW Bike Week.

“Here in the Hawkesbury, planned events will help everyone to get out in the great outdoors and enjoy riding along our increasing network of shared paths,” Councillor Ford said.

“All the free NSW Bike Week events that Council is hosting are great for the whole family, with all ages able to participate,” he added.

Tiningi Kids Bike Trials - Saturday, 12 September 2015 - 11am to 2pm

Tiningi Community Centre, 139 Colonial Drive, Bligh Park

To celebrate the completion of the new walking and cycling path in the Berger Road Reserve, a NSW Bike Week Event will be held at Tiningi Community Centre. There will be a variety of free family activities including helmet checks, timed trials and cycling obstacle courses for kids. A free sausage sizzle will be served for lunch, as well as refreshing drinks for busy cyclists. Council will be giving away NSW Bike Week prizes for kids up to 14 years of age.

The 570 metre walking and cycling path which now connects Tiningi Community Centre to Berger Road in Bligh Park was constructed with funding from Council and the Roads and Maritime Service.

Yabba Dabba Cycle Do! - Sunday, 20 September - 10am to 3pm

Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre, Clarendon (opposite RAAF, Hawkesbury Valley Way)

The third annual ‘Yabba Dabba Cycle Do!’ will feature cycling lessons for all ages. AustCycle instructors will be on hand throughout the day to provide tips and tricks for staying safe while riding your bike this summer. There will also be a kid’s prize wheel and prizes for wearing stone-aged caveman costumes or animal prints. A free succulent stegosaurus sausages sizzle will be served by our “Rotary Order of Windsor Buffalos” who will also be wearing their best cavemen costumes.

Group cycling lessons along the George Capper Cycleway will be held every half hour from 10:30am. Alternatively, drop in between noon to 1pm for individual advice.

Yabba Dabba Cycle Do! coincides with the Sydney Antique Machinery Club’s Clarendon Classic Rally, Richmond Jubilee celebrations and the Lachlan Valley Railway Steam Trains which will be operating the same weekend.
