Get to Know Your Fashionable City

Forrest Place will once again become Fashion Central when the 15th Perth Fashion Festival kicks off, proudly supported by the City of Perth.

A major partner since the Festival’s inception, the City of Perth joins other principal partners the Department of Culture & the Arts and Eventscorp in welcoming in the Festival’s ‘crystal’ anniversary, and an estimated 35,000+ city visitors attending this year’s events.

For six days, PFF 2013 will present top local, Australian and international talent across 30 parades, workshops and pop-up events throughout the CBD, Northbridge, Perth Cultural Centre and Kings Park.

The new look Fashion Central hub in Forrest Place will host a range of free shows and events including the return of popular favourite Carillon City Fashionably Loud, featuring Australian DJs The Faders, and the sustainable vintage and upcycling project Restyle.

The William St Collective’s new PFF event Makeshift offers an interactive exploration of Northbridge fashion and design; while the City of Perth is offering cash prizes for the best store window display – as voted by the public – created by local artists and retailers for Windows of the City.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the Council’s continuing support of the Festival furthers a shared aim with PFF to present Perth as an international fashion and style centre, creating opportunities for Western Australia’s growing fashion and associated industries.

“With the way tickets are going, it is crystal clear our WA designers are more than holding their own,” said the Lord Mayor and Festival Ambassador.

The Festival, which has seen increasing media coverage in the Asia Pacific Region over the past few years, resulted in an economic boost of $1.63 million being spent in WA last year, and provided over $49 million worth of media exposure for Perth.

This year, in addition to world class fashion, Festival-goers will be among the first to experience the City’s latest instalment in the Perth City – Get to Know Me campaign.

One of three new ads on TV from 15 September, inviting viewers to get to know Perth City better, features local design house retailers Dilettante and Tu, and will screen exclusively at PFF runway shows from 11 September.

The Lord Mayor stated: “From streetwear to high-end haute couture, whether you are a fashion lover or voyeur, the emphasis is on inspiration and influence.

“If, in getting to know Perth City better, you discover some of these treasure troves of local fashion and design; or, if in coming to Perth Fashion Festival, you’re inspired to seek out some of the City’s other fantastic new places to drink, dine, shop and enjoy a cultural experience, then in my mind that’s a winning partnership.”
