Goomboorian Memorial Hall gets on the Garage Sale Trail

Goomboorian residents and local groups are encouraged to take part in the Goomboorian Memorial Hall’s first Garage Sale Trail and car boot sale. Garage Sale Trail, the annual, Australia wide innovative event sees households, local organisations, schools, community groups and charities join thousands of Australians across the country in holding simultaneous garage sales as part of the rapidly growing interest in sustainability.

Social Wellbeing Portfolio Councillor Rae Gâté has welcomed Gympie Regional Council's involvement and the opportunity Garage Sale Trail provides local communities such as Goomboorian.

‘Council is proud to be facilitating the Garage Sale Trail in 2015. Besides giving residents a great free opportunity to declutter, make some spare cash and interact with their neighbours it offers community members a chance to think about how they engage in responsible reuse, rather than putting items out for collection that end up in landfill,’ said Cr Gate.

Garage Sale Trail is a fun, creative and community driven program that benefits residents and organisations who might want to recycle their unwanted belongings; live in a more sustainable way by reducing waste; connect with their community and raise some money for themselves or others.

Waste and Water Management Portfolio Councillor Bob Leitch said, ‘Now is the time to register a garage sale and join one of the largest community and sustainability events in Australia. I encourage everyone to save the date, register a sale and get out and support your local community.’

Jan McCann from Goomboorian Memorial Hall committee said that anyone interested was welcome to have a stall in the hall on the Garage Sale Trail day, saying, ‘The Goomboorian Markets of past years were renowned in their day. We want to bring back that country charm of a place where the neighbours get together and reconnect.’ Anyone wanting a stall at the Goomboorian Hall should contact Jan on 0488 769 588.
