Guinness world-record attempt: largest-ever thong race!

Thong-wearers everywhere are being asked to help the Des Renford Leisure Centre (DRLC) make world history.

The DRLC is hoping to stage the world’s largest-ever thong race, to raise money for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

The event will be capped at 1500 entrants – enough to earn it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The one-kilometre race (entrants can either walk or run) will be held in Heffron Park of the DRLC, in Jersey Road, Maroubra.

All entrants are required to pay a $10 donation and must wear thongs. Registrations can be made through the DRLC website at www.randwick.nsw.gov.au/drlc.

First 1000 registrants will each receive a free pair of thongs!

The race starts at 9.30am on Sunday 1 November at Heffron Park, Jersey Road, Maroubra.

The thong race is followed by the annual Des Renford Chair of Heart Family Gala Day at DRLC, with a giant pool inflatable, performances, face painters, characters and barbeques.

The charity day is open to the public, for a $3 donation, with all proceeds going to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
