Have your say on Parap Pool Redevelopment

The community engagement for the Parap Pool Redevelopment is well underway and two sessions for the community to get involved have been announced.

Two community BBQs are taking place at the Parap Pool, the first this Sunday 1 November and the second on Saturday 7 November. Entry to the pool is free between 11.00am and 1.00pm.

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim said the engagement process will involve everyone affected by the pool upgrade, from swimming clubs and community organisations, through to schools, nearby residents, current pool users as well as those who don’t currently use the pool.

“The Parap Pool redevelopment will be a place for recreational and leisure use, catering for everyone in the community and swimmers of all abilities.  As a bonus, Darwin will be on the national map for swimming competitions, training and events,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The new facility needs to offer more than just the new pools - it needs to be a place where the community can be comfortable, active and sociable with lots of things to do.  We want to hear what you think is important for the new community space,” she added.

The Australian Government awarded a $4.5m grant to Council earlier this year, which will be matched by Council funds. The $9.0m budget will enable a 50m FINA* compliant pool and heated 25m training pool to be built.

“Tell us your ideas for the new Parap Pool and we will do our best to budget for and deliver a community facility that everyone can enjoy for a range of uses,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Fill out our ideas cards at any of the three pools, or complete our quick and easy online survey at darwin.nt.gov.au/parappool.
