Kelly Park lights up

An exciting milestone has been reached today at Kelly Park home of the Carey Park Football Club – new light towers have been erected just in time for the start of the South West Football League season.

About one year ago the club approached Council with a request to have the 40-year-old lighting system replaced.

The request was put forward because the system was in poor condition and had very limited coverage of the grounds.

Due to the redevelopment of Hands Oval and the Hay Park Multi-Purpose Pavillion the grounds were also under strain due to more user groups frequenting the oval.

A set of four light towers complete with lighting assemblies, control boxes and internal cabling – identical to the standard of lighting at the Bunbury Speedway – were located and Council agreed they could be installed at Kelly Park.

The City of Bunbury contributed $60,000 toward the project while the club provided in-kind support by the way of materials, labour, plant and equipment and project management.

City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said while there had been delays in getting the towers erected he was pleased they would now be ready in time for football season which kicks off this weekend.

“The City is a big supporter of local sport as well as the community groups who use the grounds at Kelly Park,” Mr Brennan said.

“We are pleased this project has been able to progress and all parties involved are happy with the outcome. It is a real credit to the Carey Park Football Club who were very proactive in seeing this come to fruition and their offer of in-kind support.”
