Kids’ treehouse plan brings new dawn for Redfern Park
Redfern’s Reconciliation Park now boasts a tree house for kids and a more relaxed setting for parents after it was officially reopened on the weekend following a fun makeover.
The park’s existing playground has been extended to include a tree house with a spinning ‘drop-zone’ pole and other new play equipment for kids, as well as new seating to allow parents and carers to relax.
Also included in the $660,000 City of Sydney makeover is space for a community garden, repaved and widened pathways for easier access, and better lighting and sight lines across a surface levelled so parents can keep tabs on their little ones.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore officially opened the park Saturday as residents enjoyed complimentary refreshments and live music by singer-songwriter Evie J.
“I’m delighted to say that Reconciliation Park is now a much better place for kids and their parents thanks to the good work of the City’s projects team,” the Lord Mayor Moore said.
“The tree house beneath the shade of a tree and a slide and swings are brilliant additions for the kids, while parents can now enjoy better seating with a better view across the park.
“Well-designed open spaces are so important for inner-city residents with no backyards of their own. That’s why we are creating and upgrading parks open spaces across our city, including award-winning Hyde Park, Prince Alfred Park, Redfern Park and Paddington Reservoir Gardens.”
