Kings Square consultation takes out top award
The City of Fremantle’s community consultation process carried out as part of the Kings Square Urban Design Strategy has won the WA project of the year award at the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) core values awards.
The awards, which recognise and encourage projects and organisations that are at the forefront of public participation, were announced at the national awards ceremony in Adelaide.
IAP2 recognised the City along with project consultants Creating Communities and urban design and architectural company CODA, for best practice in encouraging excellence, quality and innovation in public participation.
City of Fremantle Chief Executive Officer, Mr Graeme Mackenzie, said the award acknowledged the City’s commitment to community consultation.
“The City has a strong focus on community engagement and over the past few years we have made significant advancements in the way we consult with the community,” Mr Mackenzie said. “During the year we undertook 54 community engagement activities with 5,500 people being involved in these activities. This was up from about 2,300 people the previous year.
“We are also very fortunate to have partnered with industry experts such as Creating Communities and CODA, as well as having a local community that is very passionate and knowledgeable on local issues. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved,” he said.
