The Leopold Community Hub which is scheduled to open its doors in March 2015, will act as a ‘one-stop shop’ for residents.
The hub will bring together a range of services and practitioners to support local families.
Cheetham Ward Rod Macdonald said, construction was progressing well and the Leopold Community Hub will be vital to accommodate the needs of the growing local community.
“The project is progressing well considering the size and nature of the new centre,” said Cr Macdonald.
“The new community hub on Kensington Road will be 1,900 square metres and includes kinder, childcare, maternal and child health services and spaces for a toy library and community meetings.”
“I’m already looking forward to the opening. It’s going to be a great boost not only for many young families in the areas but for people of all ages.”
“This ‘one-stop’ model for local families in the heart of Leopold provides neighbourhood house services under the one roof making it so much easier for people to access programs and support.”
City of Greater Geelong Councillor Kylie Fisher, portfolio holder for Community Development agreed.
“The Leopold Community Hub will help provide support for local families by predominately offering a range of early childhood services in a purpose built state-of-the-art centre.”
“Services will include playgroups, kindergarten programs, parenting programs as well as specialist family support,” said Cr Fisher.
The Leopold Community Hub is funded by the City of Greater Geelong ($6.7 million) and State and Federal Government ($2 million).
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
