Let’s talk business over brekkie

More than two dozen business owners discussed and deliberated the economic vitality of our region at Mackay Regional Council’s recent Sarina Business Breakfast.

Held at RSL, participants heard from experts including agents from First National Real Estate, local developer Brett Evans and Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce president and independent business consultant Tim Miles.

Tourism and Economic Development portfolio councillor Greg Martin said forums such as this provided attendants with a cross section of experts, information and advice.

“As a former local business owner, I know first-hand how important it is to stay abreast of our current economic climate in order to continually adapt your business plan to suit,” he said.

“Often busy business owners don’t have time to travel around meeting one-on-one with industry experts, that’s why this event is so popular – it’s a time saver that brings the experts to you.”

Council’s Economic Development Manager Dirk Dowling said discussion topics revolved around the current state of play of rental and property sales, the flow-on benefits of a 50-room motel to be built by Nationwide Civil Pty Ltd, and the benefits of being a Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce member.

“Attendants also received an overview of council projects including the Field of Dreams Masterplan and our Focus on Sarina program,” he said.

“These forums are part of council’s ongoing placemaking activities, designed to enhance, promote and support the economic strengths of key centres within our region.”

Planning for the second 2014 Sarina Business Breakfast is now under way; to register to take part, please call council’s Economic Development team on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).
