Lord Mayor comment: Resources for regions

Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy today welcomed the announcement of $5.6million funding from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program.

This is a great start to securing the funding we need for the entire project and means we can get on with

• the traffic changes to allow for the completion of the Bathers Way shared pathway from Nobbys to Newcastle Baths and Newcastle Baths to Zaara Street
• cliff stabilisation works Nobbys to Newcastle Beach

The revitalisation of our coast is a priority project and it is well underway, we have completed fantastic improvements to the Merewether Beach precinct and are working our way along the coast.

Improving coastal infrastructure, access and connectivity is crucial to showcasing our beaches as on for the great feature of Newcastle.

We will continue to work with the State and Federal Governments to identify and secure funding opportunities for the remainder of the project including the rehabilitation of Newcastle Ocean Baths and the rehabilitation of Newcastle Beach Pavilion and reconnection with Hunter Street.
