Mayor Stubbs Awarded with OAM

Mayor of the City of Busselton, Cr Ian Stubbs, has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) during the Queen’s bithday honour announcements. The award recognises Mayor Stubbs’ life-long contribution to local government and community service.

Cr Stubbs became the first Mayor of the City of Busselton in January 2012 when city status was proclaimed.  In an interesting twist, he was also the municipality’s first CEO when the position changed from Shire Clerk to Chief Executive Officer in 1994.

Mayor Stubbs has a long history with the region. He was elected onto the then Busselton Shire Council in 2007 and voted Shire President in 2009. He re-stood for Council in October 2011 and was voted in by fellow Councillors  for a second term as Shire President.

Mayor Stubbs commenced his career in local government as an administration officer in 1968. Over the past 45 years he worked in various local government municipalities  and served as the Shire Clerk in the Shires of Wyndham-East Kimberley, Toodyay, Dandaragan and Busselton.   He was also a consultant for Local Government specialising in areas of agenda and minute preparation.

Acting Mayor, Grant Henley said that Council was exceptionally pleased that Mayor Stubbs had been honoured with this award. “Ian has done a great deal for this region. While he’s remained in touch and very much involved with the community at a grass-roots level;  he’s also been instrumental in planning for the region’s long term future.

Ian has raised the profle of the City of Busselton at State and Federal level and  played a pivotal role in securing funding to progress major projects such as the Busselton and Dunsborough Foreshore redevelopments and the expansion of the Busselton Regional Airport.”

Mayor Ian Stubbs is a board member on the South West Development Commission and Regional Development Australia South West and Co-Chair of the Capes Regional Organisation of Councils (CapeROC).
