Melbourne: world’s most livable city again

Melbourne has been named the world’s most livable city by the Economist Intelligence Unit for the third year in a row.

The EIU Liveability Index is one the world’s most widely accepted rankings of livability, comparing 140 of the world’s major cities.

Other cities in the top five this year included Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Adelaide.

Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the rankings are always very close and the City of Melbourne was proud to be in the company of other leading cities around the world.

“This is the third time in a row that Melbourne has been ranked the world’s most livable city,” the Lord Mayor said.

“We are honoured to be considered the most livable city in a field of fine international cities.

“This is a great result for Melbourne, for tourism and for our international education reputation.”
