National Youth Week 2015 ‘It Starts With Us’

Youth Week celebrations kicked off with an action filled event on Saturday at the Lithgow Skate Park, and will continue with a Photo Competition offering some amazing prizes.

Lithgow celebrated Youth Week with an exciting event featuring professional BMX and scooter demonstrations and coaching by Newtons Nation, and a free BBQ provided by the Lithgow Lion’s Club, at the Lithgow Skate Park on Saturday 11 April 2015. “The professional riders from Newtons Nation have been coming to our Skate Park in Lithgow for years, they always comment on what a wonderful facility we have, and provide amazing coaching and advice to our local young people,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “The demonstrations and skills displayed by Newtons Nation were very popular with the crowd, and provided great entertainment and fun for our local youth during National Youth Week celebrations,” concluded the Mayor.

Each year thousands of young people from all over Australia come together to get involved in National Youth Week – the largest celebration of young people in Australia that recognises the contribution young people make to our communities. This year’s National Youth Week theme,  ‘It Starts With Us’ really captures the essence of Youth Week which promotes the idea that young people have a very valuable influence on their community, hopefully inspiring them to get involved to make a difference. Youth Week organisers want young people to not only embrace Youth Week events in their local area, but also get inspired to become part of planning and organising events.

Lithgow City Council is also running a photo competition as part of National Youth Week 2015 and asking young people aged between 11-24 years from the Lithgow LGA to send in photos which will be put on the Youth Council Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LithgowlgaYouth , where the public can vote for their favourite! There are some fantastic prizes to be won including a GoPro, iPad Mini and a $200 Harvey Norman Voucher. Photos can be taken on a camera, camera-phone or tablet. We want you to capture what Youth Week means to you living in the Lithgow LGA. Show us what you are doing during Youth Week, and what you will be doing during the school holidays.

The competition runs from 10 April to 24 April 2015, during Youth Week. Photos (limit of one per entry and 2mb size) can be sent in at any time during this period via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
