New Surveillance Centre supports stronger safer city
The City of Perth is proud to launch its newly redeveloped CCTV Surveillance Centre.
City of Perth Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi said the centre offers additional operational capacity and improved surveillance facilities and is taking the lead in ensuring we keep a close eye on behaviour around the city.
“A strong and safe city is our priority and the City of Perth strives to ensure this at all times,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“We want to ensure our visitors and residents feel safe and can enjoy all that the city has to offer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“Our city is going through some exciting changes and the new centre now has the capacity to accommodate for future surveillance growth as our vibrant city develops.”
The City of Perth Surveillance Centre monitors 202 cameras situated throughout the city including the CBD and Northbridge area.
The surveillance system constantly records real time images from every camera and is capable of automatically storing that data to hard drive where it can be retained for up to 30 days.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the majority of incidents covered by our cameras include disorderly conduct, assaults, substance abuse, and alcohol related incidents. They also monitor move on notices issued by police and assist police by monitoring these offenders to see if they return to the area.
“While most of the monitoring activity centres around incidents of anti-social behaviour, Surveillance Officers also use the CCTV system to locate lost people such as medical patients or children, monitor City of Perth assets and assist with the coordination of resources to an emergency,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The City of Perth is also delighted to have continued a partnership with the WA Police through the centre.”
“Police have a presence in the centre 24/7 and our Surveillance Centre team provide assistance to WA Police on police matters.
“I believe it is vital we maintain this partnership and work together with the WA Police to ensure our city is the safest for everyone.”
