Whether you have a penchant for pre-loved treasures or are just looking for an excuse to de-clutter the house, get ready for this year’s Garage Sale Trail - one big day of Garage Sales across Australia on Saturday 24 October.
In its fifth year, the award winning Garage Sale Trail is a free community and sustainability event powered by over 150 local councils and is expecting over 10,000 garage sales to be held across the country.
Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim has welcomed this unique opportunity to promote reuse and community building in a fun and creative way.
“Reducing the amount of waste going to landfill is one of the council’s priorities and the Garage Sale Trail is a fun way for local people to help achieve this,” said the Lord Mayor.
“It will be a real community event, encouraging people to get out and about and meet new people.”
“If you have old books lying around Nightcliff Library is holding a Trading Tales community book swap as part of the trail, come along and swap some stories,” she added.
Minster for the Environment Gary Higgins is delighted to support the Garage Sale Trail 2015 and is excited to see the outcome of this year’s event.
“I urge all locals to get involved either through their local councils’ events or hold their own lawn sale as part of the trail,” said Minister Higgins.
“This is a wonderful national initiative supported locally not just by local government but the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority as well.”
“I’m sure there will be some fantastic tales of people finding treasures at the trail and I look forward to seeing the results of the Northern Territory’s involvement in this year’s Garage Sale Trail,” he added.
Mayor of Palmerston Ian Abbot is pleased to be involved in this innovative event and invites the Palmerston community to get on board.
“Now is the time to pencil Saturday 24 October into your diary and prepare for a fun day of buying and selling,” said Mayor Abbott.
“For those that don’t have a lawn or garage, pack your loot into your boot and join our car boot sale at the City of Palmerston Main Car Park 8.00am to 11.00am,” added Mayor Abbott.
For sellers - you can hold a sale as a household, street, community group, school, charity or even as a local business. You can make money for yourself, or fundraise for a cause.
For shoppers - it’s truly the way to find the treasure in your neighbourhood! Each year there’s more than 3 million items for sale.
