Pittwater loves planting

If you have a passion for our headlands and love planting trees – you’re in for a treat this Valentine’s day!

Pittwater Council will give away free native plants to all Mona Vale, residents on Saturday 14 February from 8am – 12 noon at North Mona Vale Beach car park, at the northern end.

The native plant giveaway will assist the ‘Restoring Coastal Headland Ecosystems’ project, funded by the NSW Environmental Trust.

Pittwater Council’s Mayor Jacqueline Townsend encouraged residents from Mona Vale to come along and pick up a native plant or two.

“Our natural environment is one of Pittwater’s wonders. However without maintenance and restoration it wouldn’t be as it is today.

“So we’re calling up on the assistance of local residents – with your help, planting these native shrubs will help us restore and protect the natural habitat of our headlands for generations to come.

“Our Bushland staff will be available throughout the morning (8am-12noon) to give residents any advice they may need to ensure the right plant is planted in the right place,” said Cr Townsend.

There is a maximum giveaway of five plants per resident— proof of residence is required on the day— as the intention is for the coastal species to be planted into coastal properties where they are best suited to the conditions.
