Safety concerns spark park work

A request from Energex to reconfigure Brough Place in Daisy Hill will have unintended benefits, as the park will now undergo a redesign, upgrade and facelift.

Concerns about the proximity of current play equipment to overhead powerlines have energised plans for the popular civic space, with Council acting to ensure public safety.

Parks, Sport and Community Services Committee Chair, Councillor Phil Pidgeon (Division 9) said Council takes its safety obligations seriously, and would cooperate with Energex on this request.

“Council is very conscious of its duty of care responsibilities to park users, which is why we’ve undertaken a park revamp to help address these safety concerns,” he said

“The request gives us an opportunity to give Brough Place a bit of an upgrade by planting new turf, installing new seating and new bins.”

Councillor Darren Power, Division 10, said the park would be better suited for younger park-goers following the upgrade, with improved equipment and new seating planned.

“The gardens will also get an upgrade, making the space a better place to stop and have your lunch,” he said.

“Later this year a new playground will be built, adjacent to the fish and chip shop, ensuring it’s far enough away from overhead powerlines.

“New equipment will offer a range of experiences for younger aged children, who frequently visit the park, as well as being better designed to make better use the smaller space.”

Construction is due to commence late January, initially to remove existing play equipment and undertake landscaping works.

Brough Place is located on the corner of Cupania St and Daisy Hill Rd.
