Strengthening Ambon Ties with Student Exchange Program

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim was at Kormilda College for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sister Cities Darwin and Ambon.

The MOU is a three year commitment to the Student Teacher exchange between Kormilda College here in Darwin and SMA Negeri 5 in Ambon.

The Lord Mayor visited SMA Negeri 5 in Ambon on her official visit last month.

“It was fabulous to meet the principal and students at SMA Negeri 5 and see how this exchange program is building partnerships between school leaders, teachers and students allowing for knowledge and ideas to be shared and cultural ties to be made,” said the Lord Mayor.

“City of Darwin values our 26 year old sister city relationship with Ambon. It has proved to be a strong and enduring one which has brought the people of Ambon and Darwin closer together. It has fostered long lasting and fruitful partnerships,” added the Lord Mayor.

Helen Spiers, Principal Kormilda College will be signing the MOU.

“The Darwin Sister Cities relationship, including the student exchange with Kormilda College, has been one of our international highlights for several years now. As an Internationally accredited College, Kormilda values our educational and cultural links with Asia, especially Indonesia. Ambon, with its historical connections to our region, is of particular interest to our students who study the Indonesian language as part of the International Baccalaureate Programme,” said Helen Spiers, Principal Kormilda College.
