Students show appreciation for library support

More than 70 Clarence Valley HSC students took advantage of special study evenings put on by the Clarence Valley Council during September.

The Grafton and Maclean libraries each offered two special nights for students in the valley studying for their HSC examinations. On these evenings both libraries were open until 8pm, providing free Wi-Fi, printing and photocopying.

Regional librarian, Kathryn Breward, said the feedback from all students attending was overwhelmingly positive and appreciative, with a resounding suggestion that these be held more often in future years.

“The responses to the initiative showed students in the Valley appreciate having the library to themselves for dedicated study in this high pressure time leading up to exams,” she said.

“These evenings are a direct response to the feedback that was obtained in the recent library survey of youth in the Valley.

“Many students said they would like more study time and facilities in our libraries, and quite a few hold an after-school job, making it difficult to get to the library during normal opening hours.

“We already maintain a collection of HSC study guides and related resources in all libraries, and these evenings gave students exclusive access to the library as well as a unique and supportive study environment.

“Our libraries are here to help all members of the community achieve their life goals, and it’s rewarding to see students taking advantage of the resources that we have available.”

Ms Breward said staff from Clarence Valley Libraries wished all students sitting for their HSC exams the best of luck.
