Tourism Conference for the Hunter

The Local Government NSW Tourism Conference, which is expected to attract more than 200 delegates, will be held in the Hunter Valley in March 2014.

The Conference co-hosted by Cessnock City Council and Destinations NSW provides a platform for councillors and council staff to meet, listen to experts and peers and find out how other councils are engaging and managing their tourism industry.

"This is a great coup for Cessnock and the Valley," Mayor of Cessnock Councillor Bob Pynsent said today. "The theme of the Conference, ‘Harvesting the Value of Tourism’ is more than appropriate given the fact that tourism is so vitally important to our Local Government Area."

Cessnock City Council was invited to submit a bid to host the conference earlier in 2013, which led to an invitation to conduct site visits with suitable venues. The Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley.

"This is an opportunity for us to showcase best practice strategy, management and policy as well as our unique local tourism products. It is very appropriate given that our LGA is second only to Sydney in terms of tourist visitation numbers in NSW," the Mayor said.

"It is also timely considering Council’s renewed involvement in the Visitor Information Centre."

Corporate sponsorship opportunities will be available and those interested in discussing the possibilities are invited to contact Council’s Economic Development Manager Jane Holdsworth on 4993 4100.
