Vote to name the Cranebrook wetland & bushland area

As part of the Cranebrook Wetland and bushland Restoration Project, the Penrith community now has the chance to pick the name for this natural area.

When asked to come up with a possible name people were asked to consider a variety of factors including the areas Indigenous and European history plus the wetland's natural features.

After an extensive consultation period the public has narrowed the choice down to four names. They are;

1.         Mountain View Reserve (One of the highest points in the region with great views over the Nepean Valley and to the mountains)

2.         Farrells Creek Reserve (Named after the original creek that ran through the wetland)

3.         Mount Pleasant Reserve (Named after the original land grant and homestead on the site, one of the largest estates in the area. This area of Cranebrook was once its own suburb called Mount Pleasant)

4.         Cranebrook Reserve ( To keep the name tied to the surrounding Cranebrook wetland and bushland)

In July 2013, Council was successful in receiving $1.8 million in funding through the Australian Government's Caring for Our Country program to undertake a restoration project over four years (until June 2017) in the suburb of Cranebrook.

The project aims to restore a regionally significant wetland and adjacent Cumberland Plain Woodland bushland. It will also improve the condition and resilience of the bushland and increase its extent through bush regeneration, revegetation and associated activities.

Already bush regeneration has commenced, a raingarden has been installed, a bushcare group established and the bushland has been fenced.
