Council is set to receive funding to participate in the 2014 wood smoke reduction program thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Lithgow Council was successful in its application for funding to the EPA and has received $30,000 to participate in the 2014 Wood Smoke Reduction Program.
“Council is very pleased to have been selected for this program which will provide cash incentives for the replacement of ineffective wood heaters with cleaner forms of heating. This will be a perfect partner for Council's alternate fuel rebate program for the removal and replacement of coal fired appliances which has been in operation for some years”, said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham.
“The Wood Smoke Reduction Program supports Lithgow Council's commitment to improve air quality by providing opportunities for the community to replace solid fuel heaters with alternative clean heating sources,” added Mayor Statham.
The program will apply to the entire Local Government Area and will run until 31 October 2014. Further information will be provided to the community when the roll out of the program commences in the next few weeks.
Improving our local air quality while ensuring a sustainable and healthy community is part of Council's ‘Enhancing our Natural Environment' Strategies in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
