Young Territory Author Awards 2014

 

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim this week announced the winners of the Young Territory Author Awards at Charles Darwin University.

The Young Territory Author Awards are an annual writing competition where young people are invited to write and produce their own book.

“The Young Territory Author Awards reward many young authors and illustrators for their excellent work and I was delighted to be involved with such a positive event.”

“City of Darwin is committed to the development of literacy skills and launched the YTAA in 1991 to support young writers in the Northern Territory,” she added.

“These awards aim to provide an avenue through which young Territory authors are able to share their writing and have their work recognised as pieces of literary worth,” said the Lord Mayor.

The winners were:

  • Overall Winner – Irini Melas with the book The Sad Cat
  • Winner 8 years and under – Emma Symonds with the book The Rainbow Loom and the Wooden Dollhouse 
  • Winner 9-12 years – Hanna Hayes with the book 68 Stitches
  • Winner 13-15 years – Laura Brearley with the book All That’s In Me
  • Winner School Entry  – St Joseph’s Catholic College, Katherine, Class 3/4D with the book Benson, Bella & The Evil Pumpkins
