Cost-cutting measures will see the end of a local government association, leaving one less avenue for expertise, planning and advocacy.

The Rockhampton Regional Council has decided to pull funding from the Central Queensland Local Government Association, leading to a decision for a total shut-down by four of the five councils comprising the CQ LGA.

The peak council body for Central Queensland will now disband at the end of 2013.

CQ LGA president Rick Hansen, also a Gladstone councillor, said is not a positive outcome for the region.

“The only council that voted to keep it in was the Central Highlands,” Hansen said.

“That decision was a bit sad for those who have been involved with the organisation for a long time,

“It's been going for 55 years but that's the way the member councils voted.”
