Rural advocate reappointed
Australia’s first Regional Education Commissioner has been reappointed.
Retained for another two years in the role, ex-Senator Fiona Nash says she will continue tackling challenges faced by the nearly one-third of Australians living in regional, rural, and remote areas.
Nash was first appointed to the role in December 2021.
The Department of Education says she has spent her time fostering youth confidence, ensuring policies adapt to diverse community needs, and strengthening collaboration among education sectors to connect students with opportunities.
Nash also served on the Australian Universities Accord Panel, which called for measures such as doubling Regional University Study Hubs to increase access to higher education.
“Helping regional people through my role as Regional Education Commissioner is a highlight of my many years spent living and working in regional Australia,” she said.
“I look forward to continuing to work with, and for, people across the regions to improve equity in education outcomes and build stronger regional, rural and remote communities.”
