An exciting opportunity is available in the City of Sydney's Creative City unit for a Library Technician. The primary purpose of this role is to connect library visitors and users with information, literacy, technology and lifelong learning by delivering an exceptional customer experience. The Library Technician supports the Team Leader and Librarian in library best practice and engaging the community which includes but is not limited to assessing and evaluating team services and programs to ensure collections, technology, program and spaces meet and align with community needs.

You will need to be available to work any shift pattern within a seven-day week and be agile and resilient across a library network of nine branches in the City of Sydney Local Government Area.

To be successful you will need to have:

• completed or near completion of a Diploma in Library Information Management or related discipline that is recognised for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
• demonstrated working knowledge and/or experience in two or more areas (as listed in the selection criteria in the position description)
• customer service experience including accuracy of information, equity of access, user privacy and providing a welcoming experience to visitors
• an understanding of the roles of the public libraries in communities and a community focused approach to service delivery
• technology skills, continuous learning and the ability to embrace, promote and apply new technologies to service delivery
• experience in the use of PCs/Macs (including Office, Outlook, Word and Excel), information/retail software, consumer technology, social media, research databases and web applications
• well-developed communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and networking skills
• working knowledge and experience with copy cataloguing and classification (only for Collections Supports)
• the ability to problem solve and provide suitable solutions
• skills to be able to communicate effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds

• a Working with Children Check or the ability to obtain one.

It is desirable to have:

• advanced PC/Mac skills, advanced Office software skills and/or design/music video software skills
• experience in Inter Library Loans, Home Library Services
• experience in collections management and working with library vendors
• a Class 1C drivers licence
• proficiency in another language other than English
• a willingness and ability to obtain a Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate.
