Job Description

Working with the Manager and a newly realigned communications structure, your track record of leading high performers will drive our external communications and media relations to a new level. We’re looking for someone who can work directly with our Mayor, Councillors, executive and teams across Council to oversee communications strategies that help our message get out there.

With a flagship quarterly publication and growing digital channels, you’ll be working to build on the platform already in place and identify and deliver on communications opportunities in the future. Including improving our media relations, responding to reactive enquiries and making sure we’re securing proactive opportunities.

Desired Skills and Experience

To succeed in this position you will need:

  • Proven experience and track record in leading a communications function that delivers successful strategies, campaigns and initiatives.
  • Strong leadership skills with effective methods for coaching and developing others and fostering a cohesive team environment.
  • The ability to communicate complex issues to the community in a clear manner.
  • A track record of effectively managing media relations in a challenging environment, as well as issues and crisis management experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Business, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, etc). Professional communications / change or engagement certification and strong knowledge of local government operations are highly desirable
