Remuneration: Salary range between $87,390 and $$92,774 plus commuter use of a Council vehicle and 13 percent superannuation

Role Overview

The purpose of this newly developed specialist position will be to act as a custodian for Council's involvement in activities that focus on Gympie's town centre, but also play a key coordinating role for community led initiatives.  The position will be pivotal in the coordination and delivery of place making strategies that support the revitalisation of Gympie's town centre as well as developing stakeholder engagement through building strong working relationships with business owners, landlords, potential investors and residents alike.

What we are looking for

An exciting new position is available within Council's Planning and Development Directorate.  The position of Place Manager - Gympie Town Centre calls for a proactive, independent and vibrant individual, with skills in negotiation, collaboration and engagement to build business relationships and influence through others.  This position will require diplomacy, resilience and flexibility to ensure that Gympie's town centre is revitalised and energised to promote business opportunities and local development.

As Place Manager - Gympie Town Centre, you could expect to be responsible for deliverables such as:

  • the proactive place management of Gympie's town centre.
  • act as custodian of the Gympie town centre to develop, coordinate and deliver place making activities and build on the existing events and experiences calendars in conjunction with invested stakeholders.
  • establishing an appropriate governance framework to support place making initiatives.
  • work within the capital works delivery programs to ensure construction and maintenance programs occur in a co-ordinated manner.
  • manage the Town Centre Branding and Marketing Strategy in partnership with key stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, candidates will require:

  • a Qualification (Post Graduate Degree, Degree, Diploma) in place marketing/management, planning, economic development or another related discipline and significant relevant experience in a place marketing/management role (preferred), planning, economic development or another related discipline, preferably in a local government context
  • an outstanding ability in establishing effective networks, business relationships and partnerships with stakeholders such as local businesses, landowners, potential investors, other government bodies and local residents to deliver place making strategies and foster ownership by the business community.
  • a high level of knowledge of the principles of branding and marketing related to place making and town centre revitalisation.
  • a high level of customer service skills with a focus on customer support in the implementation of place making and place based branding and marketing initiatives.
  • a high level of experience in project and budget management.
  • demonstrated experience with verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to facilitate effective negotiation, collaboration and engagement.

Candidates with significant place management or place making experience within a centre with recognised built heritage environment values would be highly regarded.
