Remuneration: Salary range between $73,419 and $76,615 per annum and 13 per cent superannuation

Role Overview

The purpose of this position is to manage Council's asset accounting, capital and infrastructure allocation, and management and reporting, including recording and reporting on asset movements in an efficient and effective manner.  The Asset Accountant provides a vital link between strategy and finance by identifying and evaluating the financial implications and wider operational impacts of strategic asset related initiatives, investment opportunities and other significant projects.

What we are looking for

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled, qualified and experienced individual to be the point of contact for Council's asset accounting practices.  The position calls for a process driven. motivated and focused candidate who can provide attention to detail and a high level of experience and understanding of methodologies and systems required to provide services and advice in the areas of asset accounting, management and recording.

As the Asset Accountant, you could expect to be tasked with key responsibilities such as:

  • Co-ordinating financial and accounting services specific to asset accounting and financial reporting to assist Council's decision makers.
  • Providing asset management advice to Council's internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining the integrity of asset accounting registers.
  • Managing the annual asset revaluation process.
  • Providing proactive review and timely closure of asset and operation works projects.

To be successful in this position, candidates will require:

  • A tertiary qualification and relevant equivalent experience in financial accounting or a related discipline.
  • A high level of experience and understanding of asset control and recording methodologies and systems.
  • A demonstrated ability in an accounting environment that includes associated works projects, funding and asset management requirements.
  • A thorough understanding of Australian Accounting Standards related to asset classification, accounting and disclosure.
  • High level interpersonal communication, consultation and negotiation skills to facilitate the provision of professional and expert advice, while building and maintaining effective working relationships.

An understanding and experience of asset management within a local government context would be highly regarded.
