Remuneration: Salary range between $67,646 and $71,869 per annum plus 13% superannuation and commuter use of a Council vehicle.

Background

"Parks Operations" is a newly formed unit within Gympie Regional Council's Infrastructure Services directorate.  Council is looking to recruit this unit's leadership team with the intent on making material and lasting change in the way Parks operations are programmed and delivered.  This is an exciting opportunity and applicants must be willing to make their mark on the way we deliver for the community and be committed to seeing these changes through to fruition." 

Role Overview
The purpose of this position will be to manage the day to day workforce in the delivery of technical parks maintenance programs associated with high presentation parks and gardens, sporting fields and playgrounds.

What we are looking for

This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to lead a dedicated and multi-skilled parks team through a period of exciting change in our parks service delivery.  This position calls for a change agent with an open, inclusive and democratic leadership style, whose logical and lateral thinking will drive them to achieve outcomes.

Coming from a background in horticulture and leadership, you will be responsible for tasks such as:

  • Coordinating human and physical resources to achieve programmed outcomes.
  • Managing the performance and outcomes of staff and coordinate training attendance and development.
  • Delivery customer focused outcomes and manage customer requests in relation to parks programming.
  • Deliver minor parks projects
  • Participate and contribute to continuous improvement programs.

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Diploma level qualification or higher in Horticulture with a minimum of 5 years experience in contemporary horticulture best practice, including broad scale amenity/horticultural maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and management of teams and multiple job sites.
  • Knowledge and experience in works programming relevant to parks, gardens and sports fields.
  • A customer service focus, including negotiation skills.
  • QLD 'C' Class Drivers licence and Construction Industry White/Blue card.

Desirable for this role will be:

  • Formal qualifications and/or experience in works planning and scheduling relevant to parks, gardens and sports fields.
  • Experience in managing works programs to a budget.
  • Knowledge of playground management, including legislative requirements and practices relative to playground equipment management.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management.
  • Knowledge and experience with contract management and procurement processes.
  • Contract management and procurement skills.
  • knowledge of sporting field management, including irrigation installation and maintenance.
  • MUTCD Level 2 certification.
