The Position… is responsible for leading the City’s creative sector infrastructure strategy and planning and is ultimately accountable for delivering infrastructure that supports artists and other creative practitioners to achieve their objectives and those of the City of Melbourne. The Creative Infrastructure Lead advances Council’s goal for Melbourne to be a place that inspires experimentation, innovation and creativity and fosters courageous leaders of ideas.
Creative Infrastructure is a team within the Arts Melbourne branch of the City of Melbourne, which directly manages a range of creative programs, spaces and infrastructure and is responsible for all strategy and long term planning in relation to City of Melbourne creative sector infrastructure. The team delivers the City’s public art program, which oversees delivery of artist development initiatives and temporary and permanent commissioning; the Creative Spaces program which identifies, secures, develops and manages affordable spaces for artists and creative industries within the municipality; and the Meat Market which is a heritage listed creative venue-for-hire that also houses a range of creative organisations. The Creative Infrastructure team also supports the Branch to deliver programs through activation and utilisation of City of Melbourne owned or managed infrastructure, including Arts House, ArtPlay and Signaland the Art and Heritage Collection and is responsible for leading the planning of capital works, leasing, asset and facilities management.
This is a role for a proactive and visionary leader, a strategic thinker and long term planner, who can identify, drive and implement development opportunities to advance the City of Melbourne’sagenda while providing leadership and fostering a positive workplace culture in a creative and collaborative team.
You will have…
- Demonstrated track record as an outstanding people leader who has successfully engaged, motivated, developed and led high performing teams within the arts, creative and/or public sectors.
- A highly regarded strategic thinker with proven experience in strategic planning, including the successful development and delivery of effective strategic plans and recommendations, policies and frameworks in an arts, creative industries or government context.
- Recognised profile and demonstrated achievements in the planning, development and delivery of creative sector infrastructure, including advanced understanding of issues and trends in the provision of creative infrastructure globally.
- Recent experience in a role with responsibility for complex analysis and forecasting, reporting, budgetary and financial management.
- Demonstrated highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and the ability to take the initiative, drive changes and implement innovations
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills with the proven ability to use discretion and judgment in a complex business and political environment.
- Relevant tertiary qualification to a minimum of degree level.
- Understanding of property and planning regulations, and Victorian and Australian government approaches to infrastructure planning, development and funding.
- Proven ability to operate at a senior level, effectively managing competing demands and meeting deadlines.
